Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has revealed he is still keen to recruit a new centre-back, despite the imminent signing of Jan Kromkamp. Kromkamp is on the verge of sealing a swap move to Anfield from Villarreal with Spanish defender Josemi heading in the opposide direction. The Dutchman can operate at right-back, on the right-side of midfield or in the heart of the defence. But Benitez primarily sees him as putting pressure on Steve Finnan for the full-back slot, and has subsequently admitted that a centre-half remains on his list of possibilities. "I still need to strengthen in the centre of defence, we have four or five options we are considering," said Benitez. "It is always difficult in the transfer window, but in January more so. Teams are settled and playing and if you want someone who is doing well for his team it is very difficult to buy them. "Good players are at big clubs and that is hard. You can only look for players at smaller clubs."
