Dutchman Jol has led Spurs to consecutive fifth-placed finishes in his first full seasons as boss but appeared under pressure after losing to Sunderland and Everton in the first four days of the campaign. They thrashed Derby on Saturday but reports in Spain of a meeting between Spurs officials and Sevilla's Juande Ramos led to more uncertainty about Jol's future. Spurs insist they are not negotiating for another manager and Ramos' agent, Alvaro Torres, has stated that his client is not in talks with the Premier League club. Jol is known as a charismatic figure on the training ground who has developed an understanding with his young squad, and he certainly has the backing of Bent, who was signed in the summer for £16.5million from Charlton. "It's absolutely ridiculous that he's under pressure," said the 23-year-old. "He has got top-five finishes in the last two seasons. "He's worked wonders so people talking about him getting the sack is absurd. "The lads believe in him, everyone around the club loves him - you could hear the fans reaction on Saturday and how much they admire him. "He knows he's not going anywhere. He has made a big impact on me already. He's the one that got me from Charlton. He's going to have a massive influence on my career and I want to repay him with goals." Bent has been impressed with Jol's man-management, adding: "His coaching methods and the way that he talks to you shows he's a top manager. "He shows everyone a lot of respect, while others will hammer a player if he's not done something right. "He just talks to you, gets his point across and everyone knows what he wants." Bent got off the mark for his new club against Derby, heading in when on the goalline. "Hopefully there are many more to come," he said. "We haven't had the best results recently but we combined well and could have scored more." Bent was forced to withdraw from the England squad for the friendly against Germany on Wednesday, his thigh problem adding to his unfortunate injury record during international periods. Injury and selection has led to just two caps. "At times it has been frustrating that I haven't played more for England," he said. "When I have scored a few goals in the past I have thought I was going to get a chance, but it hasn't come." Bent is a possible doubt for the game against Manchester United on Sunday. England internationals Ledley King and Aaron Lennon are already ruled out, while Michael Dawson and Dimitar Berbatov have been sidelined recently. Gareth Bale is close to a return and Young-Pyo Lee came through the match against Derby. "I still need to work on my condition, but once I'm 100%, I think I'll be even better than before," said Lee.
