Goalkeeper Isaksson’s injury has led Manchester City to look for a top-level goalkeeper. Sven Goran Eriksson might have found a player to his liking in Livorno’s Marco Amelia. 'The Times' newspaper writes Manchester City owner Shinawatra might be ready to offer the Serie A side around 5 million pounds for the player. However it seems some people at City might be against the deal, just like they oppose the club’s attempts to sign Chiellini. Eriksson has come under fire for having signed almost exclusively foreign strikers (Fernandes, Geovanni, Elano, Garrido, Corluka, Bianchi, Petrov, Bojinov). The pressure on the manager seems to be causing difficulties in his attempt to sign Amelia. Many people at the club would prefer an English shot-stopper. The same applies to the Chiellini deal, on top of Juventus’s doubts on whether to let the defender leave. The bianconeri need to strengthen their back line and before deciding to let Chiellini go they would like to have found a worthy replacement.
