Milan Baros scored the winner from the penalty spot as Aston Villa beat West Brom 2-1 in the Midlands derby at the Hawthorns. It completed a sequence of two wins and two draws for the visitors over the festive period. Villa dominated the first half with Luke Moore and Mark Delaney both missing clear-cut chances. Moore hit the bar from six yards and Delaney fired over from even closer. Villa continued the second half in the same vein and needed only two minutes to break the deadlock through Steven Davis, with his sixth goal of the campaign. James Milner skipped past Martin Albrechtsen before supplying a deep cross which Davis headed in at the far post. Albion fought back and the deserved equaliser came in the 76th minute when Steve Watson fired home his first goal for the Baggies after Stuart Taylor had failed to claim a long free-kick into the box. But Watson's joy was short-lived. Just four minutes later he was harshly penalised for handball and Baros scored the winner from the spot.
